Resumen

La philosophie ricœurienne de l’imagination touche à la question politique du pouvoir (et aussi d’un pouvoir du « faux »), par celle de l’imaginaire social, de l’idéologie et de l’utopie, mais il s’agit dans cette étude de se pencher sur la notion de « traditions de l’imaginaire », que Ricœur rapproche très tôt de l’idée d’institutions de l’imaginaire, qui élargit considérablement le champ de l’institution. Dans son dialogue avec Castoriadis, il montre qu’il faut penser ensemble l’imagination instituante, et l’imagination instituée. Les traditions de l’imaginaire sont ces médiations longues déposées notamment dans des œuvres, porteuses de différents styles de traditionnalité. Mais la constitution d’une tradition, en effet, repose sur le jeu de l’innovation et de la sédimentation, et la critique utopique des représentations déjà installées, exploratrice d’autres configurations possibles, déposera à son tour des configurations traditionnalisées. On retrouve ici les termes d’une discussion de Claude Lefort par Ricœur, sur l’absence de fondement propre à la démocratie : « pour lui, la démocratie et le premier régime qui ne soit fondé sur rien, mais sur lui-même, c’est-à-dire sur le vide. D’où son extrême fragilité. J’essaye de dire, pour ma part, qu’il est toujours fondé sur l’antériorité de lui-même par rapport à lui-même ». Cette non-congruence à soi des sociétés, qui les oblige à se figurer, est ce qui permet de résister à un remodelage imaginaire total et sans reste. La pluralité vive des traditions de l’imaginaire, ensemble co-fondatrices de l’espace public et de la société civile, et l’incessante émulsion entre le déjà-là des traditions sédimentées et l’innovation poétique et critique qui les rouvre et en tirent des figures inédites, sont essentielles à la vie politique de nos sociétés.
