Abstract

This article shows the importance of Ricoeur's thought in Brazil, particularly his reflection on memory and forgetting in discussions on military dictatorship and slavery. It also highlights the various uses of the notion of "narrative identity" in the humanities in Brazil. However, the article insists on the need for a more in-depth examination than Ricoeur's on the question of social violence, particularly racialized violence, which permeates all social relations in this country.
