Between Paul Ricœur and Enrique Dussel

Abstract

This article addresses the relationship between the philosophies of Paul Ricœur and Enrique Dussel, especially in ethics. It also highlights the critical appropriation of the ethico-narrative core of Ricœur’s hermeneutics. It then emphasizes the main impasse: the reason for the distance between the two philosophical projects lies in the ethico-ontological core of the hermeneutics of the self, more precisely in the definition of the relationship with the other. Finally, leveraging the recent historiography, the article develops a productive synthesis and mutual appropriation of both authors’ thoughts.
